Are you aligning your teeth with braces? If so, good for you! Now, it’s best to do all you can to keep them in the best condition possible. That way you won’t delay your treatment time and you’ll have your perfect smile as soon as expected. So, to help you keep your braces in tip-top shape, our Victoria Lynskey DMD, MDS, Orthodontist orthodontic team encourages you to avoid the following habits:

Forgetting to brush, floss, and rinse: Oral hygiene is vital for your smile transformation process. This is because strong and healthy teeth can help you stay on track toward the smile of your dreams. So, please remember to brush twice a day, floss once a day, and rinse daily.

Eating appliance-harming foods: Unfortunately, eating appliance-harming foods, like sticky, hard and chewy foods and treats, can break your appliance and make it harder to achieve the smile you’re looking for. So, please do your best to avoid eating foods and treats that can harm or alter your appliance, like caramel, taffy, apples, and popcorn.

Not wearing a mouthguard: If you participate in contact sports, it’s important to wear a mouthguard. This is because there is a chance a hard, forceful object can hit your mouth, damage your appliance, and harm your smile, lips, cheeks, and tongue. So, please remember to wear a mouthguard whenever you are active.

If you do these things, your braces and smile can be in grave danger, which is why Dr. Victoria Lynskey and our team encourage you to avoid these habits at all costs.
