Your braces need to stay in tip-top shape if you want to have a successful orthodontic journey. Who knows, you might even get your braces off faster if you take good care of them! So, our orthodontist strongly encourages you to keep your braces clean, pristine, and functional. To help you do so, Dr. Victoria Lynskey has the instructions you need.
-Brush your teeth every morning and night with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. It’s also recommended to brush after each meal and snack.
-Floss your teeth at least once a day (more if possible). If flossing is difficult because of your braces, ask our orthodontic team about tools that can make the task a bit easier.
-Rinse your mouth daily with antibacterial or fluoride mouthwash.
-Wear a mouthguard if you play sports or other high-contact activities.
-Schedule an appointment if you damage your appliance.
-Use oral hygiene tools that can help you properly clean your smile and braces, like floss threaders, electric toothbrushes, and more.
-Visit your dentist every six months for your routine dental cleaning and exam appointments.
-Attend your routine adjustment appointments.
-Have a diet that is friendly to your braces, which means to avoid sticky, hard, and chewy foods.
