When you can’t participate in your normal holiday food traditions because of your braces, things can look rather dull and lifeless. Bring your world back into festive color as you realize how many different things you CAN eat. As an adult, you have much more control over the foods you choose to eat. Decide to integrate these fabulous holiday foods into your meals and parties, and you’ll be feeling festive in no time!

Chocolate: While you should definitely avoid chocolate’s culinary companion, caramel, you don’t need to worry about chocolate itself. Dark chocolate is best for overall and mouth health, in addition to being delicious. Even chocolate with more sugar can be a nice treat every once in awhile. It melts away from teeth and is easy to clean from brackets and wires.

Custard or Cream Pie: Cream or custard pies are a holiday staple. Try a pumpkin pie, cheesecake with fresh fruit, or buttermilk pie. Remember to eat them in moderation, and enjoy every bite!

Fruit: Though caramel apples may be a tradition, the risk they pose to your braces isn’t worth it. Thinly sliced apples sprinkled with cinnamon sugar can be a fun, crisp snack at a holiday meal or party. Make sure to get thin slices so you don’t damage your braces! Try different varieties, such as Honeycrisp, Braeburn, or Granny Smith. Be sure to taste the apple before adding sugar, as some varieties are very sweet on their own.
